Iyengar Yoga focuses on the very precise exercise of the asana’s to increase optimal body balance. It usually uses props like blocks, belts and chairs. This type of yoga is a physical challenge and the teacher guides the student step by step into the correct pose. In a typical Iyengar class usually only a few poses will be conducted. The benefit of this type of yoga is an increased body awareness, improved posture and breathing. Iyengar Yoga is named after its founding father B.K.S. Iyengar. He was, just like Pattabhi Jois a pupil of Krishnamacharya in India.
